testing webmentions…

[]

“a non-technical intro to webmentions” by natalie

after reading natalie’s post about webmentions, i wanted to try to add it to this website, so i grabbed the wordpress plugin mentioned at the start. the idea is that blogs and websites can connect to one another using this, creating a network effect (similar to comments/reblogs on social network sites, but intra-site). in theory it should be enabled, so if you have a blog, feel free to give it a spin!

Technically your post should have been posted as a u-repost-of of the original post. Also it doesn’t appear that you have the requisite mf2 data on your page for all that stuff to work. I’d recommend taking a look at my introduction to the IndieWeb since there’s a lot of ways where this could be a lot better!

In particular I’d recommend looking at the full IndieWeb WordPress plugin which handles the mf2 markup as well as doing all the webmention stuff for you.

it seems like the webmentions plug-in i installed is actually part of the indieweb plug-in (might be kinda like a sub-plug-in if that makes sense?). interesting that it works solo also

It seems that replies that you post to webmention-posted replies do not themselves send webmentions back to the post that were replying. Hmm.

Also is there some reason why all of your “send me a webmention” things say that this entry is the “a non-technical introduction to webmentions” post and not the actual post that you’re trying to get webmentions to?

hmm, i’m not sure–i’m just using the wordpress plugin from indieweb. i wonder if linking to that document is causing some issues? but the example also linked to another article, so that’s strange for sure. (edit: just tried to remove that link from the form, let’s see if that fixes things)

There’s a lot of broken markup on this page and I tried sending a webmention from my site and your receiver seems to have taken it in, but I’m not sure how it’s supposed to appear on your end.
