star fox characters

portraits of team Star Wolf, from the newly announced remake of star fox

i’m definitely not here to convince you that you must like this direction, but i AM here to tell you that i think it kicks a ton of ass. i was honestly 0% interested in another star fox remake (seriously???) and combined with the toxic buzz on the character redesigns, i just avoided the topic altogether.

but then i came across this image on my timeline, and… i mean, to each their own, but i think this is an incredibly cool direction. to me this really captures what i think star fox looks like–a mix of muppets (specifically the “muppets” from the 80s version of “the dark crystal”), stuffed animals, and mascot characters. i really wasn’t excited about the idea of a cartoony style, a-la zootopia, and this is just so much grimier and nastier, in a good way.

honestly, the way they look reminds me of this dutch milk ad campaign on bus stops, with these highly detailed alien paintings shown drinking milk. i was very scared of this as a kid, but i ended up loving it so much that i still have one of the posters on my wall to this day.

katt from star fox remake

this design of katt is also just perfect. she’s scrungly-looking. perfect! she is a former gang member, solo mercenary, of course she would be scrungly. hell yeah.

i also think the more bird-like falco is a fantastic idea, and slippy is super cute. if i had to have one complaint it would actually be fox himself, i think his design lacks a bit of teeth. but it’s a small issue compared to all the awesome choices they’re making here on these designs.

honestly, i probably still won’t play this game. but the designs are hitting so hard for me, i just wanted to blog about ’em!

Yeah I like the character designs, I just wish they’d make a third proper game in the series already (Star Fox 2 doesn’t count). How many remakes and reimaginings do we need of the same game?

yeah it is… extremely strange. that’s the main reason I’m not all that interested in this game. maybe they’ll add a bunch of stuff and it’ll be worth it? but idk

I really do enjoy how similar they look to the 1993 puppets. They’re great!
